Supervising Immigration Attorney - Unaccompanied Children Program (UCP) - YMCA of Greater Houston (Texas)
YMCA International Services is a unique branch of the Y of Greater Houston and seeks to meet the needs of Houston’s refugee and immigrant communities\. We provide comprehensive programs that focus on building human assets and fostering self\-sufficiency\. The YMCA International Services seeks a licensed immigration attorney to supervise a team of immigration attorneys, DOJ accredited representatives and other support staff serving detained Unaccompanied Children in the Houston area\.
**Duties/Responsibilities**
+ Provide training, supervision and support to Immigration Attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives, and support staff\. This requires fundamental knowledge of immigration law and immigration court procedures\.
+ The Unaccompanied Children Program’s \(UCP\) goal is to provide high quality legal services to minors detained in HHS/ORR detention facilities in and around Houston, Texas\.Through this program, legal staff provide child\-friendly legal rights presentations and direct representation for children who have been designated as unaccompanied minors\.The Supervising Attorney’s job will include the following tasks:
- Ensure contract compliance, including submitting monthly reports and ensuring that data is entered accurately and timely as required\.
- Oversee that the core services of the UCP are conducted well: Know Your Rights \(KYR\) presentations, individual screenings, direct representation for detained and locally released children, referrals post\-release and pro bono referrals\.
- Work closely with stakeholders \(such as ORR and shelter staff\) to maintain a positive working relationship, and ensure that the children’s needs are being met\.
- Supervise, mentor, and coordinate program staff to identify needs and provide support to make the program run effectively\.
- Participate in trainings, calls and meetings with funders and technical assistance providers to stay up\-to\-date with new legal and programmatic developments\.
+ Help recruit, train, mentor, and supervise pro bono lawyers and legal interns for representation on specific cases\.
+ Manage caseload and maintain client files in good order\. Maintain client and case information in case database\.
+ Work closely with Senior Director of Legal Services in program planning and strategic direction of Immigration Legal Services division\.
+ Collaborate with other agencies and service providers to procure client services and network with like\-minded organizations\.
+ Participate in outreach activities and information sessions for immigrants and social service agencies\. Outreach may require occasional evening and weekend events\.
+ Perform all other duties as needed and/or as directed by supervisor\.
+ Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures as set forth by YMCA of Greater Houston\.
+ Participate in airport pick up of refugee arrivals, some of which may be at night\.
Pay: $61,000 plus full YMCA benefits, Full\-time, Exempt
Office Hours: Monday\-Friday, 8:30am – 5pm

+ Admission to state bar\.
+ At least 5 years of experience in Immigration Law\.
+ Fundamental knowledge of immigration law and immigration court procedures; public speaking skills; strong writing skills; ability to work well with others and to work under pressure and handle a large volume of consultations, clients, and data; flexibility and strong communication skills; client interviewing abilities; and an appreciation of multicultural experiences\.
+ Spanish fluency is required; fluency in other languages is helpful\.
+ Immigration court experience is strongly preferred, as well as experience with asylum, family immigration, and criminal immigration cases\.
+ Supervisory experience preferred\.
+ Self\-motivated, detail orientated, well organized, able to prioritize assignments and high workload\.
+ Desire to achieve YMCA Team Leader or Multi\-team/Branch Leader certification \(see competencies below\)\.
+ Texas Driver’s License required; clean driving record; own vehicle; applicable auto insurance\.
+ Federal government clearance is required for this position\.
