The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting in the delivery of high quailty patient care to our obstetric and gynocological patients in our outpatient clinic setting. This will include but is not limited to documenting patient vitals, rooming patients, taking history, and chief complaint, etc. and documenting in the electronic medial record. MA will draw labs and give injections as well as other duties within the MA scope of practice as delegated by the provider and will assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment. MA works collaboratively with staff to foster quality patient care. Participates in performance improvement activities to improve patient safety and quality of care. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities consistent with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital.

1. Accurately collects and records vital signs, weight, height, intake & output, and other assigned tasks.

2. Assists the licensed provider with the performance of treatments and procedures.

3. Assists the patient with the handling and care of personal items (dentures, hearing aid, glasses, clothing, etc.)

4. Completes and demonstrates proficiency with unit based clinical and age-appropriate competencies.

5. Complies with applicable hospital policy/procedure.

6. Efficiently draws labs and uses appropriate lab companies.

7. Ethics and Compliance. Accountable for behaviors relative to the values articulated in the Mission & Values Statement – “Will act with absolute honesty, integrity and fairness in the way we conduct our business and the way we live our lives.” Accountable for attending annual Code of Conduct training.

8. Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for the patient with special consideration to cleanliness of the room, ventilation, temperature, and lighting. Assists in maintaining a clean and safe environment on the patient care unit.

9. Maintains accurate logs and records of work performed.

10. Orders all medical office supplies

11. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

12. Promotes an atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork by exhibiting professional behavior that demonstrates a commitment to the provision of quality patient care and support of a professional working environment.

13. Provides care and treatment that reflects appropriate infection control techniques and universal precautions.

14. Provides general supportive nursing care as assigned and accurately documents the care provided.

15. Respects the patient’s privacy and maintains confidentiality of health care and other information.

16. Respects the rights of patients to include their cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual values.

17. Reviews assessments and follows goals and objectives prescribed.

18. Supports the vision, mission and values of the hospital.

19. Teaches and models appropriate behaviors to clients.

20. Timely and accurately reports observed changes in the patient’s condition to the provider

*_Qualifications:_*

*License / Certifications / Requirements** *

* Bilingual (Spanish and English) required

* Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required

* 1 years experience working as a Medical Assistant in related field required

* Experience drawing medications for / and giving injections required

* Reliable transportation required

* Phlebotomy experience preferred (will train if needed)

* Successful completion of hospital and unit specific orientation

Completion of and/or current enrollment in MA or related program preferred.

*Additional Experience / Requirements:*

* 1 years of experience in a clinic setting required, preferably GYN/OB. Will consider family practice or other related experience

* Effective oral and written communication skills

* Familiarity with computers

* Ability to work well with others in a team environment to ensure quality patient care.

* Strong problem solving and customer service skills

* Certification as a CMA or related certification preferred.

* Able to read, write, speak and comprehend English

* Able to speak and comprehend Spanish

* Will be required to work weekdays, some Saturdays and occasional late days.

* Due to changes in patient census, may be required to leave early, rotate days off or help other departments

* Understands and accepts that assignment may fluctuate between our clinics based on clinic need,

* There may be times you will be required to leave early, rotate days off or help other departments based on clinic census/clinic need.
