Registered Nurse (RN) Radiation Oncology, Days - HCA, Hospital Corporation of America (Texas)
*POSITION SUMMARY:*
The RN Staff Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Del Sol Medical Center and the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family, and other members of the Health Care Team, the clinical RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and coordinates treatment plans. The RN also assists with the administration of moderate sedation, monitoring of the patient for outpatient procedures, patient assessments, patient education, administration of medications as ordered by physician via oral, IM, SQ, or IV route. The RN is also responsible for placing Foley Catheters, intravenous lines, and accessing Port-A-Caths. The RN will document on nurses notes, medication, and patient education records.
*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:*

* Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient’s rights to privacy by protecting confidential information.
* Plans and implements patient care and teaching based on assessment and the age of the patient.
* Evaluates and documents patient response; monitors and recognizes changes in physiological and psychosocial status; takes appropriate action based on assessment of the patient.
* Demonstrates Customer Service/Service Plus principles and behaviors appropriately.
* Competently performs procedures ordered that can be safely performed in the outpatient setting.
* Monitors patients as needed. Provides basic life support/emergency measures as needed.
* Accurately maintains daily records/charges (as applicable) of treatment administered.
* Coordinates the collection and ongoing maintenance of patient information/data.
* Other duties as assigned.
*EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: (list required and preferred *
Minimum Associates degree, diploma or BSN required
RN, BSN Preferred
*LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: (list required and preferred separately)*
Current RN license in Texas and BCLS required. ACLS and OCN preferred. Certification must be renewed no later than 30 days following expiration.
*EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: (list required and preferred separately)*
Nursing experience 3 years required.
Oncology experience 1 year preferred.
*SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:*
* Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to adapt to change readily and function in a professional manner.
* Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
* Reads and writes basic English with the skills necessary to transfer physician’s orders. Knowledge of sterile procedures.
* Ability to listen, empathize, and respond to patient, family, internal and external partners needs.
