Job Description
Sierra7, Inc. is seeking a Database Administrator to join a team providing full DEVOPS lifecycle support and services to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This program will consolidate, reengineer, and sustain a suite of Veteran-facing processes. The candidate must be able to create, implement and manage expansive database administration programs. The Database Administrator must have experience reviewing database performance trends and identifying opportunities for improvement. The candidate must be able to build databases in accordance with business requirements.
Sierra7 is a US Small Business Administration (SBA) and Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE)-verified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOSB) who provides Federal clients system and technology integration, program management, business process optimization, and enterprise solutions.
Position Responsibilities:
• Design, architect, and build databases translating from business requirements into DB designs
o Database design, database modeling, performance tuning, disaster recovery, replication, database documentation
o Work closely with programming staff on database design to meet business requirements
o Query performance tuning and database optimization
o Normalization and denormalization
• Ensure availability, security and integrity of assigned databases is at optimal performance
• Installation and configuration database management software (DBMS) and additional patches or service packs
• Establish and monitor user access, security and database roles, privileges, and permissions
• Utilization of security and recovery control tools and practices for successful database performance
• Analyze business needs and user stories to identify database administration technical solutions
• Participate in the requirements definition process to better understand the customer needs
• Ensure developed work products in adherence to established security and quality control standards for database development
• Collaborate with cross functional teams in Agile development
• Debug and correct database code, accessibility, and performance errors of assigned databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, Liquibase, SQL, PL/sql, PL/pgSQL)
Required Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated success as a Database Administrator
• Experience in a variety of database management software applications (PostgreSQL, Oracle, Liquibase, SQL, PL/sql, PL/pgSQL, AWS database offerings
o Experience performing a variety of database administration tasks in PostgreSQL (installation, maintenance, administration, migration, query tuning.
o Experience writing and troubleshooting complex stored procedures
• DevOps experience working within a Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery program
• Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) experience
• Experience maintaining database availability, security and integrity, performance of scheduled backups and database archiving methods
• Experience installing and configuring database management software (DBMS), database performance, capacity, replication
• Experienced in development of integrity checks, maintenance plans, updates of statistics monitoring of database security, database access, and hardware resource utilization
• Experience performing database scheduled and emergency backups and backup logs
• Experience in data transformation across systems and installation/test new versions of database management systems
• Demonstrated, strong analytical capabilities and technical knowledge by providing supportable technical solutions
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Must be able to write database documentation, including data standards, procedures and definition for data dictionaries
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronics engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline is required. (8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education)
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
• SAFe development experience a plus
• Experience working in VA or other Government agency [desired]
• Agile / SAFe experience [desired]
• Ability to obtain a Government security clearance.
This is a full-time remote position.
