Technical Architect - RAN & Mobile Architectures - Opportunity for Working Remotely - VMware (Texas)
As a Telco Cloud RAN Solution Architect within the Telco and Edge Cloud Business Unit you will be responsible for all technical and architectural details of running RAN and Core Telco workloads on VMware’s Telco Cloud Platform. You will own and drive all technical aspects of PoC and pilot design and delivery within major European Telco customers. You will be the technical expert responsible for design, deployment and management of virtualization and containerization platforms and technologies supporting these PoCs and pilots. You will translate the specific needs of RAN CNF and VNF workloads, like vDUs and vCUs, into infrastructure requirements. You will support customers, account teams and partners with your deep technical expertise, as a trusted advisor. You will also feed back learnings and requirements to product management and engineering and share your knowledge within your global team of solution architects and internal and external audiences in general.
Responsibilities
+ Assist customers, account teams and partners in all technical aspects of proof-of-concept activities
+ Implement VMware Telco Cloud Platform within customers lab and pilot environments
+ Understand specific challenges of virtualizing/containerizing RAN workloads, and associated infrastructure requirements
+ Understand all aspects of deployment automation from infrastructure deployment automation to VNF/CNF orchestration
+ Work with product management to enhance and evolve VMware’s Telco Cloud Platform based on customers’ requirements
+ Help to run the technical side of beta programs with VMware’s Telco Cloud Platform at major Telco customers within the EMEA region
+ Build up internal lab capabilities for your own learning, customer zero testing and internal technical training activities
+ Help with developing and improving product documentation
+ Help with internal education by documenting and presenting PoC learnings to internal audiences and externally at internal and external events, from brown bags, to VMworld
+ Engage in internal and external training activities by preparing hands-on-lab environments
Experienced Required
+ Proficient in VMware vSphere compute virtualization (vCenter, ESXi) and Network Virtualization (NSX) is required. VMware certification is preferred.
+ Experience with hardware deployment, troubleshooting and management
+ Architectural knowledge and hands-on proficiency and experience designing, deploying and managing Kubernetes is required
+ Experience with with one or more automation tools like vRealize Automation, Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform
+ Experience with containerization packaging, tooling and devOps methodologies
+ Experience in 3G/4G and 5G Radio network architecture and ecosystem
+ Knowledgeable with Radio Access Network (RAN) design and RAN virtualization
+ Knowledgeable with RAN technologies and requirements (vRAN, Small Cells, MIMO, Timing and Sync - PTP, SyncE)
+ Knowledgeable with real-time OS and acceleration products and technologies
+ Familiar with O-RAN specifications and O-RAN Components is preferred
+ Familiar with TIP/OpenRAN projects and/or ONF SD-RAN is preferred.
+ Proven consultative selling skills including good communication and presentation skills
+ Ability to work self-sufficiently within a globally distributed team of experts
+ Ability to communicate effectively across various business units to drive forward positive outcomes in technical projects, PoCs and pilots
Education/Experience
+ BA/BS degree or higher, or equivalent job-related experience
Travel
+ Estimated travel between 30% and 50% (post Covid)
