Job Description

This position is responsible for maintaining the instrumentation and control systems, to meet the energy generation requirements of the Luminant Fossil Fleet in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally sound manner. Provides oversight and maintenance of the plant instrumentation and controls systems. Through years of experience, the Lead Technician is well versed in all facets of I&C related equipment including DCS, TCS, PLCs and field instrumentation. Functions as a leader and trainer for less experienced personnel. Frequently works with minimal direct supervision and is required to display initiative in his/her area of responsibility. The I&C Lead Technician is a model employee displaying strong leadership with a positive attitude, exemplifying core values, safe work practices, the use of HPI Tools and job ownership.

Key Roles & Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent will:

+ Lead with strict adherence to safe working procedures and practices keeping safety at the forefront in planning any and all daily routine work, special projects, outage projects, or contractor involved projects.

+ Regularly develop and present safety topics.

+ Perform routine and emergency maintenance and/or compliance activities on the plant instrumentation and control systems, including weekends, holidays, and scheduled shift.

+ Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolution of issues associated with plant instrumentation & control systems.

+ Assist in the design and implementation of O&M and Capital projects.

+ Maintain a good working relationship with Operations, Electrical, Purchasing, Warehouse personnel, other support groups and vendors.

+ Successfully deliver results by thorough and detailed completion of job responsibilities.

+ Participate in system wide committees as required.

+ Share personal knowledge to aid in development of skills and job knowledge of others.

+ Cooperate with supervision and guide the work of other I&C technicians to accomplish tasks.

+ Able to perform planning and scheduling duties for the I&C shop. Build weekly work schedules in Maximo WST.

+ Display strong leadership ability by assuming lead role responsibilities when the Supervisor is absent.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

+ Associates degree in Instrumentation or Electronics and two (2) years experience as an I&C Specialist or eight (8) years of related work experience.

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot low voltage electrical circuits.

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to perform calibrations and maintenance of field instrumentation including transmitters (level, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.), control valves, valve positioners, thermocouples, etc.

+ Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the power plant processes (material handling, water side equipment, air side equipment, emission controls, turbine/generator, etc.).

+ Demonstrates specific knowledge and skills to perform job assignments.

+ Demonstrates continual self-improvement in job skills and knowledge.

+ Demonstrates knowledge of how assigned work group's activities impact other systems/units and uses this knowledge to maximize productivity and safety, and minimize problems.

+ Demonstrates knowledge and utilization of resources required to perform job, such as drawings, instruction books, calibration data sheets, MAXIMO, etc.

+ Proficient computer skills.

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the Plant DCS, PLCs and TCS.

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the control systems communication networks (DCS, TCS & PLC).

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to configure and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives.

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain weigh scales.

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to create/modify logic and graphics configurations.

+ Provide the technical expertise and skills to effectively tune control loops.

+ Can instruct others in the most effective procedures and practices of the job.
