Entry-Level Import Agent - Phoenix International Freight Services, Ltd. - Houston, TX
Our Houston, TX, global forwarding branch is seeking an entry-level Import Agent for their breakbulk department. This person handles the "break apart" functions of consolidated import shipments into the US via ocean or air carriers. Once shipments are "broken apart," they are moved inward to their final destinations with the assistance of the Breakbulk Agent. This position requires a pleasent personality and customer service skills. This position pays $14/hr.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Understand the processes involved in international shipping from time of purchase order placement to delivery of cargo at ultimate destination Communicate clearly, timely and effectively with overseas offices, agents, customers and carriers Identify and understand the documentation and terminology applicable to international shipping Maintain files: open the file, enter the applicable data elements, bill the file, issue applicable forms and documents, and close the file Resolve any overseas office/agent accounting, insurance or other issues Follow standard operating procedures and instructions as published in the breakbulk manual Assist with the international transportation of the shipment and tracking shipment movement from Origin to HBL Destination, which may involve arranging delivery at destination according to the HBL terms and customer requirements Handle applicable domestic accounting processes effectively and timely as they apply to the breakbulk department Perform other duties and projects as assigned
WORK EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS
No freight experience required; however, prior experience in customer service and office work will be helpful Proficiency in Excel, Outlook and Word Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required Ability to work under pressure in a very time-sensitive environment Experience in an AS/400 environment a plus
EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS (Certifications, Licenses, etc.)
High school diploma or GED required
