Animal Services Officer I - City of Denton, TX - Denton, TX
Key Responsibilities:
Provides a safe and sanitary environment for the temporary housing of animals by cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining animal cages, kennels, pens and runs and ensures all are in good working condition and safe for habitation Secures food, feeds, and waters all animals when ON Call or working as kennel officer Performs euthanasia of animals and documents required records regarding animals and drugs, properly disposes of dead animals Decapitates dead animals involved in a bite for rabies specimen preparation Responds to requests for animal related service Issues citations for animal violations Assists in public education relating to responsible pet ownership and animal control issues. Maintains files and related records on animal bites and other investigation reports Enforces pertinent rabies control ordinances Responds to emergency call outs Ability to get along with customers and co-workers Regular and punctual attendance
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Conditions of Employment:
Must have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license within 30 days of hire per state law) Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, social security number verification check, and a polygraph examination Successfully obtain Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within six months of employment Must pass a physical and psychological examination Must be able to work 40 hours per week plus any overtime and on-call rotation. Must be able to work shifts Good physical condition including hearing, sight, agility, and the ability to lift at least 50 lbs. A personal history statement must be submitted with each application Must meet the Civilian Hiring Standards for the Denton Police Department
PREFERENCES:
Bilingual in Spanish and English Prior experience as an Animal Control Officer or in related field
